Yes, it’s that time of the year again, people. Right in the middle of Geography Awareness Week geographers the world over are gathering with their professors and students to ring in what is for us Diwali, Songrkran and Naw Ruz all rolled up into one. This GIS Day (Geographical Information Systems), I will be learning about the true meaning by collecting free maps at my university’s GIS fair. Then later on I might eat something that was grown incredibly far away, snuggle up with a copy of National Geographic, and rest knowing that I am a part of the best discipline in the world.
Here’s to hoping that all students will be able to take a break from writing their term papers – probably frantically leafing through various statistics and diagrams – to take the time to appreciate various statistics and diagrams! Remember that whether or not you take the time to be aware of Geography this festive season, know that Geography is becoming even more aware of you.
